Professional Engineer - Catchment » Fairfield, Fairfield Area - THE POSITION: Council is seeking a technical specialist in the field of catchment management to apply specialist expertise in civil or environmental engineering to provide solutions to complex and interrelated issues around flooding, stormwater drainage, stormwater quality, creek health, biodiversity and amenity. The Professional Engineer will rely on broad experience in the fields of stormwater management, floodplain management, natural resource management, water sensitive urban design and creek rehabilitation to deliver projects that may range from large planning studies and investigations, through to detailed design, construction and maintenance. The role requires an understanding of catchment principles and processes related to hydrology, hydraulics, water quality, geomorphology and ecology. Working within a tight-knit, high-performing team environment, the role will contribute to Council’s efforts to reduce flood risk, improve stormwater quality, restore waterway health and enhance public amenity across Fairfield City. ESSENTIAL: Knowledge and experience in natural system management including; stormwater management floodplain management geomorphology water sensitive urban design urban stream rehabilitation engineering survey Proven project management skills to ensure all projects are delivered within time, budget and resource constraints including the preparation of accurate cost estimates. Highly developed written communication and research skills to present concise and accurate reports, as well as preparing technical papers, conference and seminar presentations and grant applications. More specifically, your responsibilities will include: - General Fabrication & welding to Australian Standards - Follow weld procedures and documentation - Pass welder qualifications for various process and positions - Welding via multiple processes including GMAW, GTAW FCAW & SMAW - Weld repair impellers and rotating equipment to Australian Standards and Howden specifications - Operate Schenk fixed balancer to dynamic balance rotors (training provided) - Cut & weld balance patches - Assist in fitting area with the repair and assembly of rotating equipment (support & training provided) What do you need to bring? It is essential that you have previous experience and qualifications as a Boilermaker Tradesperson, experienced working with various materials including low carbon steel, stainless steel & alloy steels. You need to be competent in GMAW & GTAW welding process as well as flame cutting & gouging. You will need to be able to manage your time, working to short deadlines and changing priorities. You will also be an excellent communicator and problem solver able to deal with customers and resolve incidents. You will be a good decision maker using your judgement and experience to find the best solutions from reading and interpreting technical drawing. More specifically, your responsibilities will include: - Reviewing workshop strip reports and determining SOW for repair - Generating customer facing Inspection Reports detailing equipment condition and repair scope - Generating repair scopes for sub-contractors for the repair of individual components - Working with PBU's (product business units) to obtain technical specifications and information for repair - Developing and modifying repair procedures for components and machines - Designing balance mandrels and adaptors for balance machines - Designing workshop equipment and jigs as required - Selecting & reviewing fits and tolerances for shafts & components - Developing solutions for repairing various types of equipment - Visiting contractor and customer sites for meetings and general inspections - Developing & modifying procedures for repairs in the workshop conforming with WH&S requirements - Assisting with development/modification of procedures required to operate equipment in the workshop - Improving templates and documents used in the overhaul and repair process - Producing ITP's for repairs - Developing QA acceptance criteria for repaired parts and report formats for customers - Supporting Project Coordinator & Workshop Supervisor to meet quality requirements - Undertaking quality checks of components when required - Reviewing QC inspection reports and information from 3rd party suppliers - Participating in acceptance testing and reviews at sub-contractors What do you need to bring? It is essential that you are a degree qualified Mechanical Engineer or tradesman Fitter & Machinist with a Diploma in Engineering. You need to have experience in a similar role, with high levels of computer literacy and organizational skills.
