Abo ut the role We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to join our Laboratory team located at our Tomago Branch Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Technician is accountable for conducting appropriate testing and analysis of fluid samples (e.g. oil, coolant, fuel and grease) including uploading the results and checking for accuracy prior to release for interpretation and analysis. This position is a permanent full time position working Monday to Friday, 8.5 hours per day. Key Responsibilities Prepare and process all fluid samples in accordance with WesTrac laboratory policies and procedures, including unpacking, registering, sorting, labelling, visual inspections and decanting. Obtain quality results so that appropriate action can be taken to ensure an increase in customer asset operation. Perform analytical testing and check the accuracy of the results for: Oil, Grease and Fuel samples (Particle Quantifier, Viscosity, FTIR, Particle Counter, ICP-OES, Karl Fischer, TAN/TBN titrations, Gas Chromatography); and Coolant samples (pH, Conductivity, Glycol%, Ion Chromatography, ICP-OES). Calibrate and perform maintenance on analytical instruments. Ensure inventory levels are replenished and maintained by communicating effectively with the Laboratory Supervisor. Contribute to the Continuous Improvement (CI) system by identifying and suggesting improvement ideas to enhance operational efficiency. We are seeking a candidate who will be able to operate well in a high-volume work area with attention to detail. A proven ability to work well in a laboratory team environment and the willingness to use initiative towards the completion of given tasks will be highly regarded. The role is very hands on during all phases of the process and can be physically demanding at time when preparing soils for analysis. The Laboratory Technicians primary duties will include but are not limited to: Accurately registering samples into LIMS system using information provided on client chain of custody documentation; Assigning test types in LIMS system using information provided on client chain of custody documentation; Preparation of samples for analysis; Operation of microscopes; Entering analysis results into LIMS system; Generation of Certificate of Analysis General administration tasks including scanning, photocopying, sorting and filing; General laboratory cleaning, stocktaking and maintenance tasks; Other tasks as requested by your reporting supervisor. Ability to achieve a consistent quality of work standards while applying adequate levels of accuracy and thoroughness in carrying out work tasks and processes. Understanding and adapting general laboratory QA/QC procedures, including performing standards instrument maintenance to avoid contamination and to protect the equipment. Undertaking routine preparations and analysis of geochemical samples and standard preparations for chemical analysis and SEM or XRD analysis. Being involved with the preparation of safe work documentation and ordering of laboratory supplies. Creating quality quantitative analytical reports. Carrying out project work and technical trouble shooting as directed by the laboratory supervisor. Location: Waterford, WA Salary: AU$70K – AU$90K pa up to 15.4% superannuation Tenure: Specified Term of 3 years Reference: 95243 To be considered you will need: Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry, OR at least 5 years of practical experience of working in an Analytical Chemistry or SEM/ XRD laboratory. Excellent attention to detail and ability to closely follow processes and procedures. Demonstrated strong focus on safety. Good written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to work with a variety of internal and external customers including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and community. Desirable : Experience using and maintaining laboratory instruments, and writing reports documenting methods & findings would be highly desirable.
