About the OPPORTUNITY We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Manufacturing Engineer to join our Hunter Class line of business based at Osborne Naval Shipyard- SA, reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and/ or hybrid working. In your role as a member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, you will be responsible for providing design for manufacture and assembly advice, defining production techniques, offering input into design for manufacturability, making recommendations and introducing new technologies and processes to maintain competitiveness, and acting as an engineering technical liaison between Engineering and Operations to ensure on-time delivery of cost-competitive, quality products. Key responsibilities include: Develop Production expertise during design and development activities Accountable and responsible for engineering support to installation or production teams to ensure correct installation or assembly, testing and commissioning of designs or changes within required project budgets and schedules Participate in requirements reviews Translate the electrical system/equipment design into a manufacturable solution and incorporate changes as required Undertake engineering management of the electrical system/ equipment manufacture Participate in problem identification and analysis Undertake engineering activities within own competence without day to day guidance or supervision, including liaison with customers and suppliers as appropriate Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority Manage own elements of Engineering work package Take responsibility for contributing to team planning, risk management, product safety, quality and Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Seek and share good practice and knowledge to continuously improve own practices. Participate and own the planning, preparing, and running trials of new and existing equipment, technologies, and processes. Create document packages for equipment design reviews and ensure cross functional buy off on equipment is achieved. Lead all design and commissioning activities of equipment to ensure performance characteristics are met. Ensure equipment is handed over to production fit for purpose and inline with all safety regulatory requirements. Project management of supplies to ensure delivery of equipment on time and to budget. Other duties as requested by Management.Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience: Bachelors (BS) degree in an engineering discipline 8 year’s relevant experience in developing or implementing new manufacturing technologies. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for driving innovation, optimising processes, and ensuring the highest quality standards in the fabrication of components critical to our aerospace operations. Develop and optimise additive manufacturing processes utilising metal laser powder bed fusion and polymer FDM technologies for the production of aerospace components. Work closely with design engineers to implement DFAM principles, optimising component designs for additive manufacturing while minimising weight, material usage, and production costs. Develop and implement quality control procedures to monitor and ensure the integrity and dimensional accuracy of manufactured components, conducting inspections and tests as necessary. Oversee post-processing and finishing operations to achieve desired surface finishes, mechanical properties, and dimensional tolerances of manufactured components. Maintain comprehensive documentation of additive manufacturing processes, parameters, and quality control measures. Generate reports and documentation for internal review. Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and advancements in additive manufacturing techniques and materials. Conduct research and experimentation to explore new capabilities and opportunities for process improvement. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including design, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing to integrate additive manufacturing processes seamlessly into the production workflow. Perform hands-on engineering and liaison role between the design teams and manufacturing organisation as Gilmour Space works to iterate on additively manufactured designs and ramp into the production phase. Perform structured root cause analysis of in-process failures and implement corrective actions. Design and delivery of new process as required. Design, installation and commissioning of capability as required.
