Maurice Blackburn, experience you can count on. About the role We have an exciting opportunity to join our Road and Work Injuries team as a part time Paralegal. This role will be based in our Dandenong office and will see you working closely with our legal staff. Your role will involve review of medical records and reports, liaising with clients, legal research, quantifying claims, progressing claims to resolution and working collaboratively in a team. As you progress and develop you will begin to take on more complex work supported by a Lawyer. This is a great role for a current Paralegal, experienced legal assistant wanting to advance or a law student and offers a fantastic learning and development journey. Key Responsibilities Drafting of legal and client correspondence and documents; Reviewing and analysing material; Legal research; Preparation of chronologies; Communication with clients as required All other general duties as required. The experience we are looking for An understanding of core legal principles, your ability to manage competing demands effectively and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a high-performance team will see you excel in this role. Primary objective As part of a team provide high quality administrative and paralegal advice and support, including document and searching functions to support the Legal Policy lawyers and the wider Legal Services Division. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Provide high level administrative and paralegal advice and support to the lawyers based in the Legal Policy Division. 2. Prepare legal documentation and Ministerials and Flash Briefs. 3. Liaise with Secretariat in relation to timing of Ministerials and Flash Briefs and any other Cabinet documents. 4. Respond to telephone enquiries and maintain file and document management systems. 5. Provide assistance to lawyers by searching for documents and conducting legal research as required. 6. Manage a range of concurrent activities in a timely and efficient manner, with minimum supervision, ensuring that deadlines are adhered to. 7. Provide support to the lawyers and other staff by booking travel, conducting file audits, updating key dates and other administration tasks as directed. Selection criteria Essential 1. Proven ability to provide high level administrative support as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality. 2. Sound organisational and analytical skills and high-level of self-management, including a proven ability to determine workload priorities, work under pressure, team player and meet stringent deadlines without close supervision in a busy environment. 3. Sound interpersonal skills together with good oral and written communication skills to be able to communicate effectively with the public, peers and other agency officers. 4. Experience as a paralegal, legal secretary or other law related position, assisting in the preparation of legal documents. 5. Understanding of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of relevant Northern Territory policies and procedures within a legal framework. 6. Experience in document and file management, with sound legal/general administrative experience, including a sound working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs, with significant experience in drafting correspondence. Desirable 1. Certificate in Legal Studies, or study towards a degree in law or similar. 2. An understanding of the role and function of the Legal Services Division.
