Senior Fullstack Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails) » Melbourne, Melbourne Region - Company: ChemCloud Founded: 2021 Headcount: 7 (you’d be 8 ) Location: Melbourne HQ Work Style: Hybrid or Remote Product: 2-sided marketplace Funding: VC ESOP: Yes Tech stack: RoR 7, Turbo, ViewComponent, Docker, SQL, & AWS Chemistry is the unsung science of our everyday existence. Chemical formulations are the secret sauce that keeps the world running smoothly. From the moment you wake up and take a sip of your coffee, to the time you brush your teeth before bed, these wee molecules are there working tirelessly behind the scenes. Who is ChemCloud? ChemCloud is a local Aussie product tech startup shaking up chemical procurement. Their mission is to accelerate the positive impact in the industry by digitising ways of doing business. They make it easy to discover, source, buy, track, and sell chemicals and raw materials, all in one place (and with some bloody clever features). This then frees their customers up to focus on what really matters: chemical innovation and building a more sustainable future. Think: EVs to green chemistry, the circular economy to clean energy. The product The ChemCloud platform is an intelligent 2-sided procurement platform for the chemical industry servicing suppliers on one side & buyers on the other. ChemCloud’s customers make a broad range of things, from: hand sanitiser, to delicious choccy hazelnut spread, to bio-based plastics, to automotive coolants, and actual literal rocket fuel. The chemical industry sits at $14B in Australia alone, the procurement of which has seen little disruption innovation. Worldwide this is closer to $1.5T () so the opportunity to drive global impact with their Aussie ingenuity cannot be overstated. The techy bits The ChemCloud platform is built using open source Ruby on Rails 7 with Turbo, ViewComponent, RSpec/Capybara, Tailwind CSS, and Stimulus, for their front end, all automatically deployed onto Railway. They use PostgreSQL but run a lot of raw SQL queries too. The team uses tools like: Notion, Slack, Github, Figma, Miro and Airtable to collaborate. Their platform is a monolith with separated concerns achieving all that a microservice can, but in a more simple way to operate and run. All code is peer reviewed they write lotsa automated tests, with their codebase covered by 3K already with a 99.8% test coverage taking just over a minute to run. As engineers they stay very close to customers, joining customer calls with Product, and viewing usage patterns and metrics. They continuously deploy updates to their platform (typically 5-10 deploys a week). They care a lot about the quality of what they’re building, and endeavour to refactor code progressively as they work on features. A little bit about you… You are a true “senior” with 10 years of fullstack commercial software engineering experience. You have experience with Ruby on Rails. You know your way around SQL and can run complex queries. You are a “product engineer” and your craft is about customer experience solving problems in equal measure. You are a critical thinker & always endeavour to use whatever tech or tool will get the job done best… not whatever's shiniest and new. You have opinions on coding standards, patterns, and conventions, and know how to productively agitate a team towards them - but you’re pragmatic and can pick your battles too. Ways of working These folks work a mix of remote and hybrid. Their HQ is located in Carlton in Melbs, where local folks can work from IRL, but they also have people working remotely across NZ and the East Coast of Aus. ❤️ The very heart of this teams ways of working is flexibility with lots of remote and async collaboration. People have lives and families which come first & they are big on actively promoting healthy work/life balance. Despite being a remote team, these folks LOVE in person collaboration and get everyone together once a quarter to brainstorm work on their product roadmap together. Have your say (and a bit of fun together too). Next steps If this sounds like you, apply say hi We’d love to chat. Kushla Egan kushla.eganaffix.com.au • Thu, 16 Mayaffix
