The technician’s time will be allocated evenly between woodyard testing and sampling and support of day crew laboratory operations. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Safety conformance - conducts the required pre-checks for equipment prior to commencement of any test. Environmental conformance - correct disposal of laboratory waste as per VISY policies and procedures. Quality - ensure accurate testing of various quality characteristics for all in-process samples for correct process optimization. Productivity - handle unloading of bulk chemical deliveries and carry out paper testing with speed and accuracy in order not to cause delay in the winding operations. Cost - minimize retest (chemical cost), breakages (materials cost), and damage to major instruments or equipment. What you will bring to the team: Minimum requirements: • Year-12 or equivalent. As Laboratory Technician you would, under supervision, provide support to teaching staff in the area of routine chemical and equipment preparation, and construction of simple apparatus for science classes. The successful applicant should possess good communication skills and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Duties include ordering supplies, equipment, managing stock levels and performing basic repairs and maintenance on the science equipment. Experience labelling and storing of laboratory chemicals, equipment and resources as well knowledge of the appropriate methods for disposal of chemical, physical, and biological laboratory materials will be highly regarded. Located in Hammond Park on Irvine Parade, the college opened in 2020 to Year 7 Students. As Laboratory Technician you would, under supervision, provide support to teaching staff in the area of routine chemical and equipment preparation, and construction of simple apparatus for science classes. The successful applicant should possess good communication skills and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Duties include ordering supplies, equipment, managing stock levels and performing basic repairs and maintenance on the science equipment. Experience labelling and storing of laboratory chemicals, equipment and resources as well knowledge of the appropriate methods for disposal of chemical, physical, and biological laboratory materials will be highly regarded. Located in Hammond Park on Irvine Parade, the college opened in 2020 to Year 7 Students. The college buildings include state of the art classrooms, a library, administration and extensive student services area. The college also features specialist facilities for performing and visual arts, science laboratories, food and textiles, design and technology workshops and a gymnasium. The cafeteria is the hub of the central precinct and provides indoor and outdoor seating, landscaped gardens and open spaces. Multipurpose courts and oval were also included in the first stage of the build. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. The successful applicants will receive training and support in the technical components and procedures of the role and a wide variety of laboratory processes associated with working in a modern laboratory.About the role/The day to day Responsibilities include: Preparing and performing laboratory testing Preparing analytical reports Demonstrating eagerness to learn and willingness to take on additional tasks as directed. Working efficiently as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-production environment Diligently following safety standards, testing methods and quality processes. The EssentialsTo be successful in this role you’ll have: Tertiary qualifications or demonstrated work experience in a similar discipline (including TAFE certificates and diplomas) Worked in a similar production laboratory environment. A positive work attitude, a willingness to learn new skills and be a great team player. Confident communication skills Strong organisational and time management skills and ability to reorganise priorities quickly. Diligence in dealing with data and details and intermediate knowledge of MS applications.
