The Institute delivers world-class research, engagement, and training that serves as a national and international resource for scholars, clinicians, system leaders, patients, and families in the implementation of evidence-based clinical care. collaborative research with a focus on translation of evidence into practice and policy.About the personThe Assistant Professor position is a leadership role in evidence-synthesis research projects, both grant and contracts based within IEBH. The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the research and contract work. The successful incumbent will demonstrate academic leadership, including leading research projects, mentoring and developing junior staff, and drive the ongoing external contracts. The SMRC is seeking specialists from all fields for future Review Councils. Additionally, the SMRC is currently seeking: Epidemiologists Psychiatrists/Psychologists Endocrinologists Immunologists With an interest in thyroid disease to participate in a Review Council concerning Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to express their interest for separate appointment as SMRC Convener. About the Specialist Medical Review Council Under the Veterans' Affairs Portfolio, the SMRC is an independent statutory body responsible to the Minister for Veterans' Affairs. The role of the SMRC is to review decisions of the Repatriation Medical Authority (RMA) in relation to Statements of Principles. Statements of Principles are legislative instruments determined by the RMA which set out the causal factors for a medical condition which must exist for a connection to be established between Australian Defence Force service and the condition. These instruments are applied in determining liability for a medical condition. The membership of the SMRC reflects the legislative intention to have contested decisions of the RMA reviewed by Medical Specialists or Medical Scientists who are expert in the injury or disease under review. A Review Council is responsible for evaluating the sound medical-scientific evidence made available to the Review Council. The Review Council also considers the application, any submissions and the contents of the Statements of Principles under review.
